Brownies with Orange Icing
INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup Shortening
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 Tbsp Fresh Orange Zest (optional)
  • 2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 Tbsp Fresh Orange Zest
  • 1/2 tsp Clear vanilla extract or vanilla powder
  • 2 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1/4 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
  1. Oven Temperature: 350°F
  2. Brownies:
  3. *Preheat oven to 350 degrees; grease 13x9 pan
  4. *Melt shortening and butter in the microwave; stir in cocoa, blending well with a wooden spoon
  5. *Add sugar and mix well; add eggs one at a time, beat well by hand after each addition (it is important to add the eggs individually and to mix them by hand after each addition
  6. *Stir in zest and vanilla; add flour and salt - DO NOT OVER BEAT
  7. *Bake 25-30 minutes; cool completely before icing
  8. Icing:
  9. *Cream butter and zest then add vanilla 2. Add sugar a cup at a time beating on medium speed 3. *Add orange juice 1 Tbsp at a time and beat on high until completely blended 4. Frost cooled brownies
  10. *Add sugar a cup at a time beating on medium speed
  11. *Add orange juice 1 Tbsp at a time and beat on high until completely blended
  12. *Frost cooled brownies
  13. Drizzle:
  14. *Melt chocolate in the microwave and drizzle over icing and cut into bars
