Burgers and Stewed Tomatoes

  • 1 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons diced onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes
  • mashed potatoes to serve 4
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon flour
  • 1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons water
DIRECTIONS
  1. combine the beef, onion, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce and mix well
  2. Make 4 hamburgers and cook them in a skillet until almost done
  3. While the burgers cook prepare your mashed potatoes
  4. When the burgers are almost done, pour in 2 cans of stewed tomatoes and cover the skillet, simmer for 10 minutes
  5. Remove the hamburgers and make a thickening like you would for gravy
  6. Stir the tomatoes as the simmer until thy thicken
  7. Serve the burgers with the mashed potatoes and the stewed tomato gravy
RECIPE BACKSTORY
This was a sis that my Grandfather made up. We would have this often at their house on Saturdays. When I tell people about it, they are not sure initially. But, once they try it, they are vey satisfied with this off beat meal.
