Caramel Surprise Cake

  • 1.) 1 package Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® butter recipe white cake mix
  • 2.) 1-1/4 cups water
  • 3.) 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 4.) 3 egg whites
  • 5.) 3/4 cup caramel topping
  • 6.) 1 tub Betty Crocker® Pour & Frost™ chocolate frosting
  • 7.) 2 small red apples, cut into total of 12 wedges
  • 8.) 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 9.) 1/4 cup caramel topping
  • 10.)1/4 cup chopped nuts, if desired

  3. 1.) 1 package Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® butter recipe white cake mix
  4. 2.) 1-1/4 cups water
  5. 3.) 1/2 cup butter, softened
  6. 4.) 3 egg whites
  7. 5.) 3/4 cup caramel topping
  8. 6.) 1 tub Betty Crocker® Pour & Frost™ chocolate frosting
  9. 7.) 2 small red apples, cut into total of 12 wedges
  10. 8.) 2 tablespoons orange juice
  11. 9.) 1/4 cup caramel topping

  13. Preparation:
  14. 1. Heat oven to 350ºF. Make cake mix as directed on package for 13x9-inch pan, using water, butter and egg whites; cool 15 minutes. Poke holes halfway into cake every 2 inches, using handle of wooden spoon; evenly pour 3/4 cup caramel topping over holes. Microwave and stir frosting as directed on tub. Pour frosting over cake; spread evenly.
  15. 2. Dip cut edges of apple wedges into orange juice to prevent browning; slightly pat dry. Dip uncut edges into 1/4 cup caramel topping; roll in nuts. Place apple wedges on cake.
