Cherry Cheese Bars

  • Crust:
  • 1 cup walnuts, divided
  • 1-1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter flavor Crisco
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • Filling:
  • 2 pkgs. (8 oz. each) cream cheese, softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
DIRECTIONS
  1. Heat oven to 350°. Grease 13x9 in. pan. Chop 1/2 cup walnuts coarsely for topping, set aside.
  2. Chop remaining nuts finely. For crust, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter flavored
  3. Crisco until fine crumbs form. Add 1/2 cup fine chopped nuts and coconut. Mix well. Remove
  4. 1/2 cup crumb mixture. Set aside. Press remaining crumbs in bottom of pan. Bake at 350° for
  5. 12-15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. For filling, beat cream cheese, sugar, eggs
  6. and vanilla until smooth. Spread cherry pie filling over cheese mixture. Sprinkle reserved
  7. crumbs evenly over cherries. Return to oven .Bake 15 minutes longer. Cool, refrigerate.
