Cherry Winks

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 1/4 C Sifted flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 3/4 C Soft butter or margarine
  • 1 C Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 C Chopped walnuts
  • 1 C Finely cut, pitted dates
  • 1/3 C Finely cut maraschino cherries
  • 2/3 C Corn flake crumbs
  • 18 Maraschino cherries, cut in quarters
DIRECTIONS
  1. Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
  2. Blend butter and sugar; add eggs and beat well.
  3. Stir in milk and vanilla.
  4. Add sifted dry ingredients together with walnuts, dates and cut cherries; mix well.
  5. Shape dough into balls, using 1 level tablespoon of dough for each.
  6. Roll balls in corn flake crumbs and place on greased baking sheet.
  7. Top each cookie with 1/4 maraschino cherry.
  8. Bake in moderate oven (375) about 12 minutes or until lightly-browned.
