Chinese Stuffed Buns

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 lb. rib end of pork loin
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tbsp. peanut oil
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 package (8 oz.) biscuits
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Rub pork with cut clove of garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Place pork, fat side up, on a rack in oven. Reduce heat to 350 degrees. Roast uncovered for 1 hour. Cool, remove bones and finely chop pork.
  3. Heat oil over medium heat in a large skillet. Add pork and saute for a minute. Add soy sauce and sugar. Blend water and cornstarch, then add to mixture. Cook, stirring until thickened. Transfer to a bowl and let cool to room temperature.
  4. To assemble buns
  5. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  6. Lightly grease an 8-inch round cake pan. Stretch each biscuit until it is about 4 inches in diameter. Place 1-1/2 tablespoons of filling in the center of each biscuit. Gather the edges of the biscuit around the filling and press together. Put the buns in the pan, with smooth sides up and sides touching.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown. Makes 10 buns.
