Chocolate Caramel Nut Bars
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chunks
  • 14 ounces caramel candies, unwrapped
  • 1/3 cup whipping cream or half and half
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or peanuts
  1. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  2. Add flour and salt; beat on low speed until crumbly. Press into 15x10" baking pan.
  3. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chocolate chunks.
  4. Cover with foil. Let stand 5 minutes or until chocolate is melted. Spread chocolate evenly over top.
  5. Microwave caramels and cream in microwavable bowl on HIGH 2 minutes or until caramels begin to melt. Stir in walnuts.
  6. Gently spread caramel mixture over chocolate.
  7. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars.
