Chocolate-Drizzled Cherry Bars

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups butter, softened
  • 1 can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 tsp shortening
DIRECTIONS
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar, and butter until crumbly
  2. Set aside 1 1/2 cups
  3. Press the remaining crumb mixture into an ungreased 13 x 9 inch baking pan
  4. Bake at 350 F for 15-18 minutes or until the edges begin to brown
  5. In a bowl, combine the pie filling and the extract
  6. Carefully spread over the crust
  7. Sprinkle with the reserved crumb mixture
  8. Bake at 20-25 minutes longer or until the edges and topping are lightly browned
  9. In a microwave or heavy saucepan, melt the chocolate chips and the shortening
  10. Melt the chocolate chips and the shortening
  11. Stir until smooth
  12. Drizzle over the warm bars
  13. Cool completely on a wire rack
