Christmas Tree Cake
  • Cake:
  • 1 81/4-oz. box chocolate cake mix (plus additional ingredients as directed on package)
  • half a 16-oz. can chocolate frosting
  • two 12-oz. cans whipped vanilla frosting
  • assorted gold balls, for garnish (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded coconut (optional
  1. Meanwhile, prepare chocolate cake as directed on package for an 8-inch, 2-layer cake.
  2. Cool layers completely on wire racks before frosting.
  3. Place 1 cake layer on a serving plate; spread top with chocolate frosting.
  4. Top with second layer.
  5. Spoon a mound of whipped vanilla frosting onto cake.
  6. Spread frosting generously on top and sides of cake, using the back of a spoon or a small metal spatula to make decorative swirls.
  7. Gently press tree cookies onto sides of cake (store any extra cookies in an airtight container).
  8. Decorate cake with gold balls.
  9. Garnish plate.
