Congo Bars
INGREDIENTS
- ¾ C. shortening
- 1 lb. brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 ¾ C. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- ½ tsp. salt
- 1 C. (or more) chocolate chips
- ½ C. chopped walnuts or pecans
- (optional: 1 C. butterscotch chips)
DIRECTIONS
- Cream the shortening with the sugar and the eggs until very well mixed.
- Stir in the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Stir in the chips and nuts. Pour into a greased 9x12” baking dish.
- Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35-40 min. or until center is almost set.
- Cool completely before cutting into squares.
