DUTCH APPLE LOAF

INGREDIENTS
- 1/2- cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1- cup sugar
- 2- eggs
- 1/4- cup buttermilk
- 1- tsp. vanilla extract
- 2- cup all-purpose flour
- 1- tsp. baking soda
- 1/2- tsp. salt
- 2- cup diced peeled tart apples
- 1/2- cups chopped walnuts
- TOPPING:
- 1/4- cups sugar
- 1/4- cups all-purpose flour
- 2- tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4- cups cold butter or margarine
DIRECTIONS
- In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in buttermilk and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture. Fold in apples and walnuts. Pour into a greased 9x5x3" loaf pan. For topping, combine the sugar, flour and cinnamon in a bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over batter.
- Bake at 350 deg for 55-60 mins or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack. Freezes well
