Dillard House Cabbage Casserole

  • Basic White Sauce
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 Large Head of cabbage
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 stick margarine
  • 3 cups basic white sauce
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups buttered bread crumbs
  • Shred cabbage. Cook 5 - 8 minutes in boiling water with 1 tsp salt. Don't overcook. Cabbage should remain crisp. Drain well. Layer cabbage in buttered 2 quart casserole dish: cabbage, enough sauce to cover, second layer of cabbage,remaining sauce,then cheese. Top with buttered crumbs. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 15 - 20 minutes.

  10. 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  11. Salt and Pepper
  12. 1 quart milk
  13. Melt margarine in a sauce pot. Add flour, salt and pepper, Add milk and cook until thick, stirring constantly.
  14. Yield: 8 - 10 servings
