Double Chocolate Christmas Star Cookies

  • 1 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup softened butter, divided in two
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • Cookie bling (sparkle sugar, nonpareils, etc.)
DIRECTIONS
  1. Melt 1/2 cup morsels in a double boiler, stirring until smooth, and set aside
  2. Combine dry ingredients, set aside
  3. Cream 1/4 cup butter, sugar, and vanilla together, add egg
  4. Blend in melted chocolate
  5. Add flour mixture gradually until well combined
  6. Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill 1 hour
  7. Roll chilled dough on floured surface to an 1/8 inch thickness
  8. Cut wit star cookie cutters and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment
  9. Bake 8 - 10 minutes at 350 degrees, cool on a wire rack
  10. Melt together remaining morsels and remaining 1/4 cup butter, stirring until smooth.
  11. Spread over cooled cookies and adorn with cookie bling
