Dried Apple Icing
  • 1 qt. dried apples
  • 2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. powdered allspice
  1. Put dried apples and water in large pan; they will expand when moist.
  2. Cook at low heat until soft, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  3. More water may be needed to keep apples from scorching, stir frequently.
  4. Mash cooked apples with a potato masher until pieces are no more than 1/2-inch size.
  5. Add more water, if needed, to thin apples enough to spread like icing.
  6. Add sugar and all-spice.
  7. You may adjust the amount of sugar to your taste.
