Family Favorite Ginger Cookies`

  • 1 Cup Sugar (or 1/2 Cup Sugar and 1/2 Cup Sucanat)
  • 3/4 Cup Butter
  • 1/8 Cup Black Strap Molasses
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Cups All-purpose Flour (or I Cup All-purpose flour; 1 Cup wheat flour)
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Teaspoon Cloves
  • I Teaspoon Ginger
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, cream sugar and butter together until fluffy, then beat egg in and stir in molasses.
  3. Sift flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt. in a medium bowl.
  4. Gradually stir in dry ingredients into the molasses mixture.
  5. Roll out balls of dough then roll them into a Ziploc gallon bag filled with sugar.
  6. Place cookies on an ungreased baking sheet 2 inches apart each.
This recipe comes from my grandmother on my mother's side. It has been part of our Christmas tradition for all my life (it just so happens to also be my favorite cookie). Submitted by: "Wolberg Family"
