Frozen Fruit Salad with Dressing 'Voila' Mom

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup canned pineapple, sliced
  • 1 cup canned pears, diced
  • 1 dozen, maraschino cherries, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fruit salad dressing
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped
  • Dressing
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice
DIRECTIONS
  1. Salad Dressing directions
  2. Mix together sugar, salt, four, vinegar and pineapple juice, stirring well after each addition.
  3. Cook over a low heat until thick and smooth, stirring constantly
  4. Cool before adding to salad.
  5. Make about 1 cup

  7. Mash bananas to a smooth pulp.
  8. Add pineapple, pears, and cherries.
  9. Add fruit salad dressing
  10. Fold into whipped cream
  11. Pour into a 8 inch square dish.
  12. A quart milk carton works well for freezer container and mold for salad.
  13. Freeze to solidly frozen.
  14. Remove from mold and slice.
  15. Serve immediately

I remember Mom making this when I was young. She served it as a salad but as you can see from the recipe, it is really a frozen dessert. Yummy!!! The recipe was originally clipped from a newspaper, The Charlotte Observer, most likely.
