GINGERBREAD(LAURA INGALLS WILDER)

  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. lard
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • raisins or chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
  1. Blend sugar, lard and molasses. Add baking soda and boiling
  2. water. Be
  3. sure the cup is full of water after foam is
  4. run into cake mixture.
  5. To flour, add spices and salt, then
  6. blend into rest of mixture. Add 2 beaten eggs, raisins or
  7. chocolate
  8. chips.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes in 350 degrees oven (use 9 x 13-inch pan).
