Grandma Hazel's Homemade Macaroni and Cheese

  • Preparation Time: 15 minutes
  • 1 lb elbow or shell macaroni
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions until al dente.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter. Once melted, remove from heat and whisk in flour. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Return butter-flour mixture to medium heat and slowly whisk in milk.
  4. Add cheese a handful at a time, continuously stirring until cheese has melted.
  5. Combine with macaroni and serve hot.
