INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 pkgs instant yeast (4 ½ teaspoons or 1 ½ tablespoons)*
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Flour (4 cups+)
DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine boiling water, shortening, and sugar and allow to cool.
  2. Mix yeast, eggs and salt and then add to the cooled water/shortening mixture.
  3. Add flour to make a stiff dough.
  4. I’d add about 4 cups and slowly add flour, about a half a cup at a time, until dough forms. Usually for me it ends up being about 6 cups total.
  5. *I usually add the yeast to the liquid mixture once it’s cooled to about 110 degrees and proof it for 10 minutes until it’s nice and bubbly. Putting the yeast in when it’s any hotter will kill the yeast. At that point, the water is also cool enough to finish the dough
