Granny's Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 Tbs melted butter
DIRECTIONS
  1. Place dry ingredients into a bowl.
  2. Cut in butter until it becomes crumbly.
  3. Add buttermilk and stir just until moistened.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface.
  5. Knead dough about 4 times (don't over handle or biscuits will be tough).
  6. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  7. Cut out biscuits with biscuit cutter and place on lightly greased baking sheet.
  8. Brush tops with melted butter.
  9. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown in a preheated 450 degree oven. Makes 12 biscuits.
  10. Hint: For crispy biscuits make sure the biscuits don't touch in the pan, and for softer biscuits let the sides touch each other.
