Homemade French Bread
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups lukewarm milk
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- ¼ cup lukewarm water 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 5 ½ cups flour
DIRECTIONS
- Dissolve dry yeast in ¼ cup of lukewarm water. Add butter, salt and sugar. Mix all this with the lukewarm milk. Add 3 cups of flour and mix well. Cover this mixture and let it stand until it makes bubbles. Then, add the remaining 2 ½ cups of flour and knead well. Put this in a bowl, cover and let stand in a draft free environment so it may rise. Once it has doubled its original size it is ready for baking. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place the dough on a well greased pan. You may make individual loaves or one large loaf. Place dough in oven and reduce temperature to 300 degrees. Bake until golden brown.
