Homemade Grape Nuts

INGREDIENTS
  • 5 lbs. Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 gallon Buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 1 1/2 stick Oleo (melted)
  • 1 pt Sugar
  • 1 pt Sorghum
  • 3 teaspoon Baking Soda
DIRECTIONS
  1. Dissolve Baking Soda in the Buttermilk.
  2. Mix all ingredients well
  3. Bake at 325 for 45 minutes
  4. Grind and put back into the oven at 125 degrees
  5. Bake for several hours.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
Mom had this recipe and had written that a Mrs. Yoder gave her the recipe. Mrs. Yoder was a sweek Amish lady at Rockhome Gardens in Arcola, Illinois. The recipe was given to Mom in July of 1989.
