Homestyle Baked Beans
  • Cooking Time: 2 hours
  • Servings: 12
  • Preparation Time: 15-20 minutes
  • 8 slices of bacon, I prefer Wright thick sliced hickory
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3-28oz. cans of pork and beans
  • 3/4 c. BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar
  • 2 T. spicy brown mustard
  1. Fry the bacon in a large iron skillet until fat is rendered, but bacon is not crisp. Set bacon aside. Saute onions in bacon fat until transparent. Add beans with liquid, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, and mustard, heat to a simmer. Top beans with bacon slices. Bake in an oven preheated to 325F for about 2 hours or until sauce has reduced to a thick syrup consistency. Let stand to thicken slightly before serving. Reheats well.
The men in our family adore these baked beans.
