Lebanese Mashed Potato and Ground Beef Casserole

- 4 large potatoes, boiled
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- FILLING:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup pine nuts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon all spice
- 2 tablespoons pomegranite syrup
- TOPPING:
- Bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
DIRECTIONS
- Mash potatoes with butter, salt, and milk.
- Set aside.
- Heat olive oil, cook onion until soft, add beef, pine nuts, salt, all spice and cook until meat is no longer pink.
- When the meat is thoroughly cooked, add pomegranite syrup and mix well.
- Turn off heat and set aside.
- Spread 1/2 of potato mixture in bottom of a well greased pan.
- Spread filling over.
- Spread remaing potato mixture over filling. Smooth out so that the beef filling is a completely covered by top layer of potato mixture.
- Add small pieces of butter.
- Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
- Bake at 250 degrees for 25 minutes.
- Cut in squares to serve.
