Mac and Cheese
INGREDIENTS
  • Cooking Time: 25-30 minutes
  • Servings: 4 (generous servings)
  • Preparation Time: 20 ish minutes
  • 2 cups macaroni noodles
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (if using plant-based milk, add a bit more than 2 cups)
  • 1 cup (or more, depending on how cheesy you want it!) grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional: 1 cup-ish bread crumbs for topping
DIRECTIONS
  1. Cook macaroni according to package (al dente is best)
  2. Melt butter; add flour and stir until bubbling
  3. Gradually add milk and stir constantly until smooth and thickened
  4. Add cheese and stir until melted; blend in seasonings
  5. Place a layer of macaroni in a greased casserole dish, cover with a layer of sauce. Repeat ending with sauce.
  6. Optional: Top with bread crumbs
  7. Bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes, or until mixture is heated through and crumbs are brown.
