Mandarin Orange Deep Dish Pie Michelle Losey's
INGREDIENTS
  • Mandarin oranges in jar, can or frozen
  • To measure the amount of oranges needed take pie pan you're going to use and fill it w/ oranges 'till slightly heaping then pour in bowl and wash and dry your pie pan
  • 3/4- 1 Cup white sugar (if using regular oranges depending on bitterness you might want to add more sugar!)
  • 1-2 tsp orange extract
  • 1-2 tsp vanilla
  • Couple shakes of salt
  • 3 TBS Cornstarch (if real juicy might want to add more cornstarch)
  • Pie crust deep dish homemade or store bought
  • OATMEAL CRUNCH TOPPING
  • 3/4 cup quick cooking oats
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • Dash of salt
  • Cold butter
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 375F
  2. Add sugar, vanilla and salt to oranges
  3. poke a few fork holes in bottom of crust
  4. Pour orange mix into pie crust
  5. Add topping
  6. Cover edges of pie w/ Tin foil to prevent burning
  7. Bake at 375
  8. TOPPING
  9. Mix oats, sugar, flour and salt together
  10. Cut in butter 1 TBS at a time 'till mix is crumbly
RECIPE BACKSTORY
After making enough pies I found you can make a pie outta most any fruit, fruit mix, juice or vegetables and vegetable fruit mixes! So I began experimenting and this was one of my concoctions :)
