Mary Ann's Old Fashioned Bread Stuffing/Oyster Stuffing
  • Cooking Time: Cook in the turkey. If you don't want to do that, cook in the oven for 30-45 minutes at 300˚
  • Servings: Enough stuffing for a 14-18lb turkey
  • Preparation Time: Cube the bread and set out overnight to dry out. Mixing everything together is pretty quick.
  • 4 cups diced celery
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 quarts bread cubes. Use a variety of bread, 1/2 of which is cornbread.
  • 1 TBS salt
  • 2 tsp poultry seasonings
  • 1/2 tsp dried sage (1 TBS fresh)
  • salt & pepper
  • 1&1/2 - 2 cups hot water or broth
  1. Saute the celery and onion in butter until onion is transparent.
  2. Mix with cubed bread.
  3. Add water or broth - enough to mositen.
To make oyster dressing, use some of this regular dressing, add freshly shucked oysters.
