Mocha Ice Cream Dessert

INGREDIENTS
  • 24 Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • ½ gallon coffee ice cream
  • 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 Tbl. butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • dash salt
  • 2 - 5½ - 6 oz cans evaporated milk
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups heavy cream, whipped
  • 1½ oz. Kahula liqueur (optional)
  • powdered sugar to taste
  • ½ - ¾ cup chopped nuts
DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine cookie crumbs and butter and press into the bottom of a buttered 9 x 13 inch pan. Refrigerate.
  2. When chilled, spoon on softened ice cream and freeze.
  3. Melt chocolate and butter, add sugar, salt and milk. Bring to a boil stirring until thickened. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  4. Chill and spread on top of ice cream.
  5. Freeze.
  6. Whip cream, add powdered sugar and if using the Kahula.
  7. Spread over chocolate layer and sprinkle to with chopped nuts. Freeze.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
Variation: Excellent with peppermint stick ice cream, garnished with cookie crumbs or shavings of semi-sweet chocolate.
