Mom's Swiss Steak

  • Preparation Time: 25min.
  • 1 & 1/2 lbs. of cube round steak
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Flour for dusting the meat
  • 1/3 cup of veg. oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic (crushed)
  • 1-14oz. can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 med. onion (cut into strips)
  • 1 med. bell pepper (cut into strips)
  • 1-10oz. can of tomato paste
  1. Season steaks with garlic powder, salt and pepper
  2. Dust meat with flour
  3. Brown in skillet with the veg. oil
  4. Transfer to a Dutch oven
  5. Combine garlic cloves,tomato, onion, bell pepper and paste
  6. Pour over steaks and simmer over low heat till tender (45-50min).
  7. You can add a pinch of sugar to tone down the tomatoes
  8. This can also be cooked in the crockpot on low 4-6hrs.
  9. Serve with rice or mashed potatoes
