Nona's Ginger Cookies
INGREDIENTS
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1c. sugar & additional 1/4-1/2 c. in a small bowl
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. & 2 tbsp. flour
DIRECTIONS
- Combine shortening, 1 c. sugar, molasses & egg in mixer.
- Blend till creamy.
- Add spices.
- Gradually add flour.
- Roll into balls about the size of walnuts.
- Roll in additional sugar.
- Place on cookie sheet several inches apart.
- Bake 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
- Cookies should being to "crack" on top.
- Gently remove from cookie sheet on to cooling rack.
- Let cool for several minutes.
- Note: For crispy ginger snaps, bake a few minutes longer.
