Oatmeal Carmelitas

INGREDIENTS
  • 32 caramels
  • 5 tablespoons light cream or evaporated milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 6 ounces chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
DIRECTIONS
  1. Melt caramels in cream. Cool slightly. Combine remaining ingredients except
  2. chips and nuts. Press half of crumbs into bottom of 11x7 pan. Bake at 350 for
  3. 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chips and nuts. Spread carefully
  4. with caramel mixture. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake 15-20
  5. minutes longer or until golden brown. Chill 1-2 hours.
