Old Fashioned Gingersnaps

  • Preparation Time: About 15 minutes + chill
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Additional sugar
DIRECTIONS
  1. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar
  2. Beat in the egg and molasses
  3. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt
  4. Gradually add to the creamed mixture
  5. Chill
  6. Roll into 1 1/4 inch balls
  7. Dip into the sugar
  8. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets
  9. Bake at 375 F for about 10 minutes or until set and the surface cracks
  10. Cool on wire racks
