Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread

  • 3 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups pumpkin (plain)
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • Note - may substitute pumpkin pie spice for the cinnamon,nutmeg, ginger and cloves
DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, ginger and cloves or the pumpkin pie spice if using. Set aside
  2. Cream butter, add sugar and beat 2 minutes.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, stirring after each addition.
  4. Add dry ingredients alternating with the pumpkin, stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
  5. Put batter in 2 8 x 4 inch greased loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 75 minutes.
  6. Test if done with a cake tester.
  7. Cook longer if still wet in middle.
  8. Makes 2 loaves
