Quick And Easy Syrup Bread
  • 300g Syrup (Lyle´s Golden)
  • 350g sugar
  • 700g Flour (sifted)
  • 600ml Buttermilk
  • 1 tsp cloves (powder)
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • grated peel of an organic orange
  1. Mix all ingredients and bake in a square cake pan at 180°C for 30-45min depending how big the baking pan is. My mom always put it in the oven baking pan, so the bread was big and rather flat.
  2. When cool, cut in 4 to 6 equal parts and then slice one at a time in nice bread slices when serving.
  3. Ideal to freeze some of it, wrapped tightly in freezer bags etc.
  4. Then just thaw on the table before serving for a few hours.
My mom made this bread all the time when we were growing up. It´s very quick and easy to make and tastes really good with cold butter topping and with a hot tea, coffee or even cocoa :) Hope you will love it like me and my family does.
