Simple Granola

  • 2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 6 c. rolled oats
  • 1 c. coconut
  • 1 c. wheat germ
  • 1/2 c. golden flax seed
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. oil
  • 1 c. honey
  • 2 t. vanilla
  • 1 T. salt
  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Combine in a large mixing bowl the dry ingrediants except the salt. Blend together separately the liquid ingrediants including the salt. Then add the liquid mixture to the dry ingrediants, mixing thoroughly. Spread out on cookie sheets and bake 1 hour, or until dry and golden. In large mixing bowl, put in the hot granola cereal and add in your favorite extras, such as chocolate chips, dried apples, sunflour seeds, sliced almonds, nuts, large flake coconut, raisins and such. Store in covered containers.
Homemade Granola is the only way to have oatmeal! But your granola is only as good as the ingrediants you use. I find organic ingrediants and beautiful oatmeal. Get a local honey and use your own dried apples. One year I had sun dried apricots that I had bought by the kilo in Turkey. Those were amazing in the cereal. I often double the recipe, but you need large baking sheets and a really large mixing bowl! Personally, I prefer the granola to stay fresh, so a single batch will feed our family for a while.
