Sourdough Donuts
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- for rolling:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
- Mix starter, eggs, buttermilk and melted butter in a large bowl. Whisk together dry ingredients and then stir into the wet ingredients just until blended. The dough should be thick but loose enough to drop from a spoon. In a deep saucepan, heat canola oil to 325 F. Scoop out dough with a cookie scoop and drop gently into the oil. Fry 6 or 7 at a time until medium brown and cooked through. Transfer to a towel to drain and roll in cinnamon sugar as soon as they are cool enough to handle.
