Spaghetti

  • 1/2 C olive oil
  • 2 T butter
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 lb minced pork or hamburger
  • 1 1/2 C red wine
  • 1 tsp each: pepper, salt, nutmeg, basil, oregano
  • 1 large can peeled tomatoes
  • 1 large can tomato paste
  • 1 carrot, peeled
  • 1 stick celery, chopped fine
DIRECTIONS
  1. Heat oil and butter together, add onion and garlic and heat until golden. Add meat. Stir on high constantly until it reaches a boil, ten add wine and continue stirring on high until it evaporates . Turn down the heat to low, add spices, carrot, celery and tomato and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
This recipe was given to me by my friend Kay when we lived in Egypt. It is a Bolognese style meat sauce that makes a wonderful base for lasagna.
