Spicy Gingerbread Cookies

- 2 1/4 C sugar
- 3/4 C water
- 3/8 C dark corn syrup (just under 1/2 C)
- 1 1/4 Tbs cinnamon
- 2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 Tbs ginger
- 2 cubes + 2 Tbs margarine
- 1 Tbs baking soda
- 8 C flour
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat oven to 350
- Combine sugar, water, corn syrup, cinnamon, cloves and ginger in a sauce pan. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
- Dissolve baking soda in 1 Tbs water, and gradually add to mixture.
- Add flour gradually and work until dough is firm.
- Divide dough into thirds and roll out on floured surface to 1/8 inch, and cut with cookie cutters.
- Bake 8-12 minutes, and cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet. Allow to cool completely before frosting
