Steak Pie
  • 1 lb stew beef, cubed
  • 1 pkg dry french onion soup mix
  • pinch season salt
  • pinch pepper
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • cold water
  • puff pastry (approx. 12"x16")
  1. Place stew beef, seasonings & soup mix in covered casserole dish.
  2. Cover with water & place in oven @ 325F for 2-3 hours (until meat is tender).
  3. Mix cornstarch with enough water to dissolve & pour into stew beef mixture. Stir to thicken gravy (repeat if necessary).
  4. Return to oven for approx. 15 mins.
  5. Roll out defrosted puff pastry on floured surface until thin 12"x16" rectangle.
  6. Increase oven temp to 400F.
  7. Place pastry on ungreased cookie sheet & cut diagonal slashes in pastry.
  8. Bake until golden brown.
  9. Cut into squares & place on servings of beef mixture.
This is a holiday staple in my house - we can't get through the Christmas season without it!
