Swedish Almond Shortbread

  • 2 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 6 c. unsifted flour
  • 1 Tb. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. toasted slivered almonds
  • sugar (for top)
DIRECTIONS
  1. Cream butter and sugar 'til fluffy. Work in flour, vanilla and salt. Roll out dough to fit 2 ungreased 15 1/2"X10 1/2" X1 1/2" jelly roll pans (or three 13X9X2" pans).
  2. Sprinkle with almonds and sugar. Cut unbaked dough in 2 1/2" X1 1/2" bars. Bake in moderate 350ยบ oven about 15 min. Immediately recut bars along same lines. Cool in pans on racks.
