Swiss Steak

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • dash pepper
  • 2 lbs. round steak, cut 1-inch thick
  • 2 tbsp. shortening
  • 1 can (4 oz.) mushroom pieces
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 cup tomatoes, canned or fresh
DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine flour with salt and pepper, then pound into meat. Brown meat on both sides in shortening in a skillet. Add remaining ingredients.
  2. Simmer, covered, on top of range for 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Or transfer to a casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours
