Te i’a ota, Tahitian marinated fish

  • 400g/ 14 oz./ 1lb sea bream filets, skinned
  • The juice of 6 limes
  • 2 ripe tomatoes
  • 1 carrot
  • 2 fresh onions
  • ½ cucumber
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (I used sunflower)
  • 250ml/1 cup coconut milk
  1. Rinse the filets and chop them into large dice.
  2. In a bowl, mix the lime juice and oil. Season with salt and pepper, and add the fish. Cover with Clingfilm and allow to marinate about 10 minutes in the fridge.
  3. In the meantime, finely grate the carrot. Deseed and finely chop the tomatoes, cucumber and onions.
  4. Drain the fish and mix with the vegetables.
  5. Add the coconut milk and season with salt and pepper if needed.
  6. Allow to marinate for another 10 minutes before serving with a side of citrus and avocado.
