Thyme Beefy Rice

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
  • 1/2 head cabbage, shredded
  • 1 cup long-grained raw rice
  • 1 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 2 bay leafs
DIRECTIONS
  1. Brown ground beef in electric skillet, break in to small pieces. Add onion, green pepper, cabbage and rice. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste or puree, water and seasonings. Heat to boiling; reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and simmer for 25 minutes until rice is tender, stirring occasionally and adding more water if necessary.
