Turkey Stroganoff
INGREDIENTS
  • Butter Flavored Cooking Spray
  • 1 pound white button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • pinch of kosher salt
  • 1 can (14 oz) chicken broth
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp all purpose flour
  • water (a couple of tbsps)
  • 1/2 tsp Gravy Master
DIRECTIONS
  1. Spray Skillet with butter flavored cooking spray & sautee mushrooms until tender. Add ground turkey and sprinkle with salt, onion powder & white pepper. Cook until turkey is browned. Add broth and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 5 minutes and then add sour cream. Mix flour and water in a cup or small bowl (it should be about the consistency of melted ice cream) and then using a fork or wire whisk, blend into the turkey mixture to thicken. Add only as much as you need to get it to the desired thickness and then discard the rest. Add Gravy Master and blend well - this will give the gravy a rich brown color. Serve over cooked egg noodles. I always like to have it with steamed broccoli as well.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
I think I had a frozen dinner that was something stroganoff and I thought it wasn't bad but that I could do better... So I started trying it with different things and this was the end result. It's also very good with ground chicken and using beef broth instead of chicken broth can give the gravy a slightly different flavor. It all depends what you like. This is one of my favorite foods though and I make it often. I have it for dinner and then I bring it to work with me for lunch for the next coupld of days.
